Description Viking Scramasax, Seax Dagger with Bone Grip

Viking Scramasax, Seax Knife with Bone Handle

This short Viking Age sax knife (also known as a broken back seax due to its particular blade shape) has a hand-forged EN45 high carbon steel blade with a thick spine. The eye-catching bone grip is polished, artfully etched, and terminates with a collar and a butt cap, both made of steel.

The Viking seax comes with a thick, vegetable tanned leather sheath featuring antiqued brass fittings – reinforcing plates, rivets and two hanging rings.

Please note that this Viking knife is primarily designed as a collectible, decoration piece or prop and by no means suited for combat re-enactment! The blade’s point is not rounded, and the edge is not sharpened, yet slightly ground (approx. 1 mm thick).

Details:
- Blade material: EN45 spring steel (high carbon steel, not stainless), unsharpened
- Handle material: animal bone and steel
- Overall length: approx. 30.5 cm
- Blade length: approx. 19 cm
- Blade width: approx. 2.5 cm at collar / 3.8 cm at broadest point
- Blade thickness: approx. 4 mm (approx. 2 mm towards the point)
- Weight: approx. 285 g (approx. 515 g with sheath)
- Leather sheath with antiqued brass fittings and carrying rings

Specs may slightly vary from piece to piece.

The steel used here is not rust-proof and might show slight surface tarnishing in places. We recommend you to maintain the blade on a regular basis, for example using Ballistol Universal Oil, which is ideally suited for steel care.

Please keep in mind that bone and leather are natural products and variations in colour and grain are quite normal. Besides, as the knife is fully hand-crafted, the ornaments may slightly vary from piece to piece. Each Viking seax has thus its own very unique handle and sheath, and above pictures are for reference only.
