Katzbalger Sword with Scabbard, 15th-16th Century, Practical Blunt, SK-C
The Katzbalger sword is a short single-handed battle sword of the Renaissance. This shortsword was the favoured close combat weapon of the Landsknechts), the mercenary soldiers of the late 15th and 16th centuries. Its most distinctive features are the relatively short, wide blade, the S-shaped hand guard and the fish tail pommel. There are two possible linguistic origins for the name: It could be a reference to cat leather, which may have been used for the hilt or shealth. It's however more probable that it originates from the German word katzbalgen, a synonym for brawling or tussling. Katzbalger were often used by pikemen or archers or as a last defense, when the opponent was too close for their long-range pole weapons.
The tip of our replica is rounded and the cutting edge is 2 mm. This sword is thus suitable for light combat reenactment training and light swordplay. We can not however guarantee that there will be no breakage. The blade has total of three fullers. The wooden hilt, steel pommel and hand-forged guard have all been very solidly manufactured.
Delivery include a wood-and-leather scabbard (the leather colouration may slightly vary from piece to piece).
